"I have been training at Ippon Ryu for nearly three years because I watched a couple of YouTube videos and decided to learn Jiu-Jitsu. After trying several clubs in Hampshire, I chose this one. I found the big difference from the other clubs I tried to this one is how you are treated as a new starter. You are made to feel welcome the moment you step on the mat. The instructors give you personal attention, and you are not treated as an inconvenience to the lesson. Too many other clubs put a new starter with other new starters, and it becomes the blind leading the blind. I really was made to feel like the most important person in the room by putting in the effort to turn up and meet the team. The instructors are very knowledgeable and experienced in their art and are very keen to share this with others. However, the classes are so much fun and relaxed, and there is also a social aspect to this. If they decided to stop teaching Jujitsu and start teaching knitting, I would probably enjoy it just the same! If you want to start a new hobby or if you have already tried a different club and felt awkward as the new person, then come give Ippon Ryu a try."

"This is an excellent club. I am middle-aged and have been practising martial arts since my teenage years. I have practised at many clubs and with many different instructors over the years. The one key thing I have learned over the years is that it is not about what you are learning but more about who is teaching it. Do not choose a martial art and then find a club or just go to the one closest to where you live, but seek out passionate instructors who have the gift of teaching. This club has two instructors. One with significant experience in several martial arts and the other who can make any lesson both serious and fun at the same time, and has natural teaching ability. I do not know anyone else who teaches Japanese formal culture whilst adding in some of the worst dad jokes of all time."
